In my case, the easy-care surface is practical for a table we use several times a day; water stays on top instead of soaking straight through to the table. Spilled drinks wipe off without sending the tablecloth to the washer. Our table gets used for more than just meals.
Once I started using it, the vintage pattern adds color without needing extra table decor, and I can clean the table after dinner with a damp cloth in a couple of minutes.
What surprised me: the soft backing feels safer against the tabletop than plain plastic, and it makes sense for a table that gets used for meals, homework, and crafts.
The main reason I like vinyl is being able to wipe dinner spills instead of washing the whole cloth, but it took time lying flat before the strongest folds relaxed.
I still use trivets because I'd not put very hot cookware directly on the vinyl. I chose it for practicality, not because it feels like woven fabric.
